Johannesburg, known as Jo'burg or Jozi is the largest city in South Africa. Black people called it iGoli or City of Gold referring to Johannesburg's beginnings as a 19th century gold rush town and today it is the country's commercial center. Economic strength, a beautiful climate and a commercial edge makes Johannesburg a fascinating destination.
As a result of people moving to Johannesburg from all over the world during the gold rush there is a great mixture of people, cultures, etc. You'll enjoy superb hotels, restaurants, culture and nightlife. The Tour starts with a drive past Nelson Mandela's home in Houghton, passing the University of the Witwatersrand, over the Mandela Bridge, opened by the man himself on his 85th birthday (in 2003), through Newtown; one of the oldest suburbs where working class people of all races lived soon after the discovery of gold in 1886.
This was one of the trading hubs and popular meeting places. As we drive through President or Market streets in the city center you will have the opportunity to see how busy it is with people selling their products in the streets and get a closer look of the locals.

We visit the Constitutional Hill which is a journey through South Africa’s painful past and also its remarkable transition to Democracy. This includes a visit to the Old Fort Prison complex; (commonly known as Number Four).

On the drive back from Johannesburg, the magnificent skyline of the City of Gold will be seen. The tour passes through some of the residential suburbs, which makes it difficult to believe that little over 100 years ago, Johannesburg was just veld and now is the biggest city in South Africa and is in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest man-made forest in the world.
