Jackalberry Safari Lodge offers guests on their safari in South African a range of game viewing activities to enjoy. The area around the safari lodge is home to over 250 different bird species, making it ideal for birdwatchers.
Guests can also look forward to game drives offered twice a day. Start your early morning game drive with some hot tea and coffee and a range of snacks. Evening game drives end with a delicious dinner served in the boma (outdoor enclosure) next to the warm campfire.
Game drives are ideal for spotting South Africa's Big Five and a diverse range of African wildlife in Thornybush Game Reserve. Walking safaris can also be arranged where guests can learn more about the surrounding bush. Alternatively, relax next to the pool.
Day 1: Arrival to Johannesburg.
We will meet you at the Airport and assist you with banking, foreign exchange, cellular rental and any other retail service you may require within the terminal building and finally take you to your hotel for the night.
There is a good variety of tours that can be arranged in Joburg if you are up to it and there is time available.
Day 2: Transfer to Jackalberry Game Lodge.
Early departure from Johannesburg at 07H30. We stop for a short beak in the town of Dullstrom and then have lunch at Harries Pancakes’ in Graskop before continuing towards Thornybush Game Reserve. Arrival at the lodge in time for your afternoon safari.
Day 3 and 4: Full day Safari - Jackalberry Game Lodge.
Dawn and dusk safaris in open Land Rovers where we'll search for the elusive Big 5, you will return to the lodge after your first safari for breakfast and have plenty of leisure time on your hands. After lunch you’ll have some more time to relax or take a “siesta” and recharge your batteries for the late afternoon drive.
Day 5: Safari and Panorama route.
Early morning Safari. Pick up after breakfast and return to Johannesburg via the Panorama Route to visit the Blyde River Canyon, by some measures the third largest canyon in the world, after the Grand Canyon in the United States and the Fish River Canyon in Namibia and by any definition the largest 'green canyon' due to its lush subtropical foliage, it is known as one of the great wonders of nature on the African continent. After this we continue to Bourke's Luck Potholes where you will see how the river has eroded the rocks and created unusual potholes along the course of the river. We will then move on to Lisbon Falls which is the second biggest waterfall in South Africa (92 meters) and finally to God’s Window situated at the southern extremity of the Blyde River Canyon Nature Reserve. At God’s Window, majestic cliffs plunge over more than 700 meters to the Lowveld. The visit to Lisbon Falls and God’s Window is time and weather permitting. Late lunch in Graskop and continue to your hotel for the night in Johannesburg.
